According to industry reports, the global market size for porcelain insulators was approximately US$347.6 million in 2024 and is projected to reach US$508 million by 2031, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1% from 2025 to 2031. This market covers all voltage levels from low to ultra-high voltage, and major manufacturers include NGK Insulators, China XD Group, Dalian Porcelain Insulators, Liling Huaxin Porcelain Insulators, Sinoma Porcelain Insulators, and Liling Pukou Porcelain Insulators, among other domestic and international companies. China has formed porcelain insulator industry clusters, represented by Liling in Hunan Province and Luxi in Jiangxi Province. Liling currently has 186 porcelain insulator manufacturers, producing over 1,000 different products, and ranks first in the country in annual exports. Luxi County has 94 large-scale porcelain and electrical enterprises, with products covering all voltage levels from 10kV to ±1100kV.

Technological Innovation and R&D: Leading enterprises continue to increase their R&D investment. For example, Xi'an Xi'an Electric High Voltage Porcelain Co., Ltd. (Xi'an Electric Xi'an Porcelain) invested over 90 million yuan in R&D during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, applying for 47 patents and overcoming key technologies such as resistance sheets for 550 kV and above circuit breakers, and inorganic bonded hollow porcelain insulators for 750 kV and 1000 kV, filling domestic gaps. Companies like Sinoma Electric Porcelain have achieved breakthroughs in ultra-high voltage rod insulators, blue-gray glaze technology, and semiconductor glaze technology. Their second-generation semiconductor glaze products have been industrialized, making them the only company in China and one of only two globally to master this technology. Industry-academia-research collaboration promotes material and process optimization. For instance, optimization research on the head structure and raw material formula of ultra-high voltage large-tonnage suspension porcelain insulators can improve their electromechanical destructive performance by approximately 16.5%.

Intelligent and Green Transformation: Manufacturing is upgrading towards automation and intelligence. For example, Xi'an Electric Porcelain has adopted a dual-station fully automated blank trimming machine and a vertical electro-drying process, increasing production efficiency by 50%. Sinoma Electric Porcelain has built a large-scale fully automated production line and intelligent production management platform for ultra-high voltage insulators, increasing production efficiency by 2.62 times. The industry is developing towards green and low-carbon practices. For instance, Jiangxi Saif Electric has adopted an "industrial building on floors" model, increasing land utilization by 40% and reducing production energy consumption by 15%. Sinoma Electric Porcelain has reduced natural gas energy consumption by approximately 26% through equipment upgrades and waste heat utilization. Jingyuan Electric's new projects have introduced photovoltaic power generation systems and zero-emission devices for waste gas and wastewater. The Luxi Advanced Porcelain Materials Pilot Plant has provided services to over 120 enterprises, conducting over 1,000 tests annually.

Internationalization and Market Position: Domestically produced high-end porcelain insulators have successfully broken the foreign monopoly and entered the global market. Our products are not only used in domestic ultra-high voltage projects, but have also successfully entered markets in Europe, South America, and Asia, becoming suppliers for international companies such as Siemens, ABB, and the Italian national grid Terna. For example, Sinoma Electric Porcelain has become the only qualified Chinese insulator supplier for Terna in Italy, holding 85% of its winning bids; the products of Liling Huaxin Electric Porcelain and Luxi Electric Porcelain industrial clusters have also been exported to dozens of countries and regions around the world.
